This project extends beyond aesthetic arrangement, it becomes a sensory dialogue between land, culture, and time. Rooted in the rhythm of the Wagyl, a powerful ancestral serpent spirit associated with water, life, and the formation of Country, whose presence is woven through Aboriginal stories of creation and care for the land.
The architectural forms within the landscape, curved, layered, and flowing — evoke natural elements such as meandering rivers, native plant structures, and the cyclical movement of Country.
Organic, flowing curves define the spatial layout, echoing the movement of the Wagyl. These forms guide movement and interaction, creating a space that feels intuitive, inclusive, and deeply connected to natural systems.
Materiality plays a central role in reinforcing this narrative. Jarrah wood is used for seating and structural elements, offering warmth, durability, and a strong connection to local Country. Pavers are arranged to represent river stones, referencing the waterways carved by the Wagyl and inviting tactile engagement with the ground plane, as if walking along a riverbed.
The space provides a setting for yarning, reflection, and cultural exchange, supporting storytelling, education, and community connection. Through its form, materials, and symbolism, the project honours Aboriginal culture and embeds cultural meaning into the everyday experience of the school environment.
